The town of Wallington, at just 1.05 square miles, officially became a borough on January 2, 1895 and borders Carlstadt, East Rutherford, Garfield, South Hackensack, and Wood-Ridge and is said to have been named after Walling Van Winkle who was an early settler in Northern New Jersey.
