Originally incorporated as a borough called Riverside in 1894, on December 1, 1930 it officially became River Edge and is surrounded by Oradell, New Milford, Paramus, Hackensack, and Teaneck.

You would think that a small town measuring only 1.88 square miles would not have much historical importance, but you would be wrong.  Consider the following sites as evidence of River Edge’s relevance in American History:

New Bridge Landing: New Bridge Landing is the site of The Bridge That Saved A Nation crossed by the Continental Army and General Washington as they retreated from the British attack on New York City on November 20, 1776

Campbell-Christie House is a historic home constructed in April 1774 in what was then Hackensack Township on the east side of the Hackensack River that was moved in its entirety in 1977 from New Milford

Steuben House was used by George Washington as his headquarters for 16 days in September 1780.

Demarest House is a historic house near the Van Steuben and Campbell Christie house. It is known for its stove chimney which was a technological advance at the time it was built in 1794. It was originally in New Milford, but then moved to River Edge. It was renovated in 2009 and is open to the public as a museum

River Edge is known as a great place to raise a family and offers access to numerous parks and ball fields including:

Van Saun County Park covers 146 acres in River Edge and Paramus. There’s a train ride, zoo, carousel, pony rides, playground, dog park, baseball fields, some walking paths, and Walden Pond.

Veterans Memorial Park - located on Continental Avenue has a playground, a ball court/roller hockey rink, and a baseball field.

River Edge Arboretum - located on Elm Avenue next to the River Edge Public Library that has a walking path and tennis courts.

Kenneth B. George Park located at the end of Riverside Way (next to the River Edge Swim Club), includes a lighted Softball Field, Baseball Field, bathrooms, and concession stand for the use of River Edge Recreation sponsored adult and youth athletic leagues.

If parks and zoos are not your thing, not to worry, The River Edge Cultural Center, a not-for-profit Museum/Cultural Center that was founded in 1995 by a small group of dedicated volunteers, provides River Edge, as well as Bergen County, with 15 to 20 FREE programs yearly.

Oradell is 2.57 square miles and borders Dumont, Haworth, Emerson, New Milford, Paramus, and River Edge and was originally formed on March 8, 1894, as the borough of Delford

On November 12, 1920, the borough's name was officially changed to "Oradell", based on the results of a referendum held ten days earlier.

The most notable structure of note when driving through Oradell is the Atwood-Blauvelt mansion on Kinderkamack Road in Oradell was built in 1897 and is home to the Hiram Blauvelt Art Museum.

The Atwood-Blauvelt mansion takes its name from original owner, Kimball Chase Atwood, and from its second owner, Elmer Blauvelt who bought it in 1926.

Atwood spent $100,000 on the construction of the mansion

The 25-room mansion is situated on a large plot of land and fronted by a two-acre sloped lawn that comes down to Kinderkamack Road. Its location, prominent lawn, massive foundation, steeply pitched gable roof, and hexagonal towers with conical roofs make the mansion a landmark structure.

Other noteworthy places in Oradell include the Little Firehouse Theater- a stage theater that was originally a firehouse. The Bergen County Players perform plays and musicals at the theater and a small park in the center of town that was created in the 1960s to honor astronaut Wally Schirra, who was raised in Oradell, marked by a plaque that reads "Home of Commander Walter M. Schirra Jr., USN, the first Jerseyman to orbit the Earth, Oct 3, 1962"

In 2016, New Jersey Family, a resource for New Jersey parents, ranked Oradell the winner of "New Jersey's Best Towns for Families"

So, whether you have just moved to Oradell or are a life-long resident why are you wasting hours doing laundry?  Instead, leave it to the professionals at Laundry Smart!  Just book a day and time that is convenient for you and we will pick it up and return it washed, dried and folded so you don’t have to!
